Authorities are investigating after a body was discovered in a Newark parking lot late Friday morning.
Just before 11:30 a.m., Newark Police responded to the east end of the Cityplex movie theater parking lot near 16th Avenue and Bergen Street on reports of an unresponsive individual.
When officers arrived, they located an unidentified male lying on the ground. The circumstances surrounding the discovery were not immediately clear.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has taken over the case and is leading what officials described as an active and ongoing investigation.
At this time, authorities have not confirmed whether foul play is suspected. Additional details, including the identity of the deceased and the cause of death, have not yet been released.
Officials say more information will be provided as it becomes available.
