Cold Midweek Start in Newark with Light Snow Expected

Newark

Good morning, Newark and the North Jersey region.

We’re waking up to another cold start this Wednesday, and yes — the “S” word is back.

The good news? It’s nothing like the powerful weekend blizzard that buried neighborhoods under heavy snowdrifts across the region.

Many residents are still digging out from that storm, clearing sidewalks, driveways, and vehicles.

If you’re continuing cleanup efforts this morning, take it slow and be mindful of slick spots and packed snow that may have refrozen overnight.

Light snowfall is expected today, but accumulations will be minimal compared to what we’ve already endured.

Most of Newark and North Jersey could see anywhere from a coating to under an inch, while parts of Central Jersey may pick up around an inch.

While totals won’t be impressive, untreated surfaces could still become slippery.

As of this report, temperatures in downtown Newark are hovering around 34 degrees under an AccuWeather alert.

According to the National Weather Service, snow may mix with rain after 10 a.m. before gradually tapering off.

The high temperature will climb to near 42 degrees. However, wind chill values will range between 20 and 30 degrees, making it feel much colder than the thermometer suggests.

Southwest winds will blow between 8 and 10 mph, with gusts reaching up to 22 mph.

The chance of precipitation is 80 percent, with less than a half inch of new snow accumulation possible.

Tonight, skies will become partly cloudy with temperatures dropping to around 30 degrees. West winds will range from 6 to 8 mph.

If you’re heading out, bundle up with your winter gear, coat, hat, gloves, and keep the umbrella handy just in case.

While today’s snow won’t be a major event, it’s still enough to cause minor travel slowdowns.

Drive carefully, move cautiously on sidewalks, and continue digging out safely.

Enjoy your Wednesday, New Jersey.
