UPDATE: AG’s Office Investigating Fatal Woodbridge Crash Following Police Pursuit

An active investigation is underway after a late-night police pursuit in Woodbridge Township ended in a violent crash that left one woman dead and several others seriously injured.

The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability confirmed it has taken over the investigation into the fatal collision, which occurred shortly before midnight on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in Middlesex County.

 

According to preliminary information released by the Attorney General’s Office, a Woodbridge police officer initiated a motor vehicle pursuit of a Nissan Maxima that was traveling southbound on Route 1 at a high rate of speed. 

Officials stated that approximately one minute after the pursuit began, the Nissan collided with another civilian vehicle near the area of Gill Lane.

 

Authorities said the female passenger inside the Nissan was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m. Friday. 

Several other occupants from both vehicles sustained serious injuries and were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment.
 

Investigators also revealed that a deceased dog was found inside the Nissan following the crash.

Officials emphasized that the police vehicle was not directly involved in the collision.

 

The identities of those involved have not yet been released.
 

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
