Light Snow, Freezing Temps Kick Off Presidents’ Day Morning in Newark

Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to a cold and snowy start this Presidents’ Day morning, with between one to nearly two inches of light, fluffy snow covering much of the area.

Good morning! If you’re heading out early, be sure to bundle up and allow extra time to clear off your vehicle.

Light snow continues to fall in some spots, and temperatures remain below freezing to start the day. In downtown Newark, it’s currently 30 degrees.

While the morning commute may be a bit slick in areas due to overnight accumulation, conditions are expected to gradually improve.

Temperatures will climb above freezing later today, reaching the upper 30s to near 40 degrees, which will help melt some of the snow as the day progresses.

As we observe Washington’s Birthday and honor the nation’s leaders, a few lingering flakes may fall early before skies begin to brighten.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 30 percent chance of snow before 7 a.m., followed by cloudy skies that will gradually become mostly sunny, with a high near 39 degrees.

Wind chill values will range from 20 to 30 degrees, with a light northeast wind of 3 to 8 mph.

Tonight, clouds will increase with a slight chance of rain and snow after 1 a.m.

The overnight low will dip to around 32 degrees, with calm winds. The chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Drive carefully this morning, watch for slick spots, and have a safe and enjoyable Presidents’ Day, New Jersey.
