We’re waking up to a noticeably calmer and more cloudy start compared to the bitter cold that gripped Newark and the North Jersey region over the past couple of weeks as we move through the second half of the extended Presidents’ Day weekend.
Good morning, New Jersey and we hope your Valentine’s Day celebrations were simply the best.
If you’re heading home early this morning, you’ll still want the winter gear.
Temperatures in Newark are hovering around 30 degrees, keeping us below freezing to start the day.
Some light snow or frozen precipitation may have caught your attention overnight.
While it wasn’t significant, it was enough to create slick spots on roads across Essex County, so drivers should remain cautious, especially on untreated surfaces.
According to the National Weather Service:
Today:
Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41 degrees. Calm winds are becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon.
Tonight:
Snow is expected, mainly before 4 a.m. The low will be around 31 degrees with a northeast wind near 7 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%, and up to an inch of snow accumulation is possible.
Enjoy the brief break from the deep freeze — but stay alert for changing weather conditions later tonight.
