Newark is waking up to another very cold start as we close out the week in New Jersey’s largest city.

Good morning and welcome to Friday. If you’re heading out early in downtown Newark, temperatures are sitting at 23 degrees.
Like yesterday, we’ll climb above freezing later today, but not by much.
The sunshine will help chip away at some of the snow that has been lingering for the past couple of weeks, though it won’t be enough to leave the winter gear at home. Keep the coat, hat, and gloves handy.
Across North Jersey, it’s even colder in some spots. Sparta is waking up at 9 degrees, Morristown at 12, Paterson at 17, and Mahwah at 9 degrees. It’s a frigid morning throughout the region.
According to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high near 36 degrees.
Wind chill values will range between 10 and 20 degrees with a northwest wind around 10 to 13 mph.
Tonight, clouds will increase with scattered snow showers developing mainly after 1 a.m.
The overnight low will be around 24 degrees, with a southwest wind between 5 and 7 mph. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
So while the sun will give us a slight break and push temperatures above freezing, it won’t be enough to put away the winter coat just yet.
Have a great day and enjoy your weekend, New Jersey.
