Cold Start, Brighter Finish: Sunshine to Push Newark Near 40 Degrees Today

Newark

Good morning, New Jersey.

We’re waking up to another cold start across the Newark and North Jersey region, but unlike the past several days, temperatures are finally hovering just above the freezing mark.

As of 4:30 a.m., it’s 32 degrees in downtown Newark.

If you’re heading out early to the bus stop or commuting into work, you’ll still want the full winter gear.

While we’re technically above freezing, it remains brisk and uncomfortable in the early morning hours.

The good news? Sunshine is expected to dominate the day. According to the National Weather Service, skies will be mostly sunny with a high near 39 degrees.

That slight climb above freezing should help begin melting some of the lingering snow, offering a small but welcome break from the recent deep chill.

Winds out of the west between 8 and 16 mph — with gusts up to 28 mph — will keep it feeling colder at times, so don’t let the sunshine fool you.

Tonight, temperatures drop back down to around 27 degrees under partly cloudy skies.

Wind chills are expected to range between 20 and 25 degrees, with continued breezy conditions.

For now, enjoy the sunshine and that modest warm-up. It’s a step in the right direction.

Have a great Wednesday, NJ.
