State officials have released body-worn camera and surveillance video connected to a fatal police encounter in Jersey City last fall.

According to a statement released by the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability, the footage relates to the October 21, 2025, death of Teshawn Rogers, 27, of Jersey City, following an encounter with police.
The incident involved members of the Jersey City Police Department Street Crimes Unit, which operates in plain clothes and unmarked vehicles.

Investigators say officers encountered Rogers shortly after 1 a.m. in the area of Bergen and Virginia avenues as he walked north on Bergen Avenue.
Preliminary findings indicate that Rogers fired a gun and fled southbound after two officers in an unmarked vehicle pulled over ahead of him.
Those officers did not fire their weapons. Moments later, officers in a second unmarked vehicle arrived, and one officer discharged his weapon, striking Rogers.
Police provided emergency medical aid before Rogers was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:44 a.m.
A firearm was recovered at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by OPIA. The video recordings were released under a 2019 Attorney General policy aimed at ensuring transparency in investigations involving deaths during law enforcement encounters.
Family members of Teshawn Rogers were given the opportunity to review the footage before it was made public.
The released materials include body-worn camera footage, surveillance video, and radio transmissions, which have been made available by the Attorney General’s Office.
