The arrest was carried out by the Spanish National Police in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service Office of International Operations and the U.S. Department of Justice Office of International Affairs.

De La Cruz-Arias was charged in April 2025 with first-degree murder for the March 2025 shooting death of Josue Hiraldo-Peralta, 32, of Camden.

He was also charged with first-degree attempted murder in connection with a second victim who survived the incident.

Investigators said the shooting occurred on March 12, 2025, at approximately 10:29 p.m., after Camden County Police officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert for gunfire in the 300 block of Morse Street.

Upon arrival, officers found Hiraldo-Peralta suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside. A second victim was later located inside a nearby residence with a gunshot injury.

Both victims were transported to Cooper University Hospital for treatment. Hiraldo-Peralta was pronounced dead at approximately 11:05 p.m.

Detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Camden County Police Department worked jointly on the investigation and identified De La Cruz-Arias as the suspect responsible for the shooting.

During the fugitive investigation, Senior Detective Stephen Bezich of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, who also serves as a task force officer with the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force – Camden Division, developed information that led authorities to De La Cruz-Arias’s location in Spain.
