Jersey City has issued more than 400 summonses to residents and businesses for failing to comply with snow-removal requirements following last month’s winter storm, according to reporting by Advance Media / NJ.com.

Officials said Jersey City, the state’s second-largest municipality, received at least nine inches of snow during the January 25 storm.
While snowfall totals were lower than in some other parts of New Jersey, the storm left behind hazardous conditions, including snow-covered sidewalks, blocked bus stops, obstructed crosswalks, and difficult travel for pedestrians.
City leaders noted that enforcement efforts were stepped up as crews continued post-storm cleanup and addressed ongoing safety concerns in heavily traveled areas.
Under Jersey City’s snow-removal regulations, both commercial and residential property owners are responsible for clearing snow from sidewalks, curb ramps, gutters, and crosswalk access points up to the plow line.
Officials also reminded property owners that pushing or shoveling snow into the street is prohibited.

City officials emphasized that timely snow removal is critical to pedestrian safety, particularly for seniors, people with disabilities, and residents who rely on public transportation.
