Firefighters in Irvington battled a frigid early morning fire that tore through a building in one of the township’s busiest sections Saturday, just before 3 a.m.

Crews were dispatched to the 1100 block of Clinton Avenue after receiving reports of a structure fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames coming from the front portion of the second floor of the building.
Multiple hose lines were immediately stretched as crews worked to knock down the fire.
As additional manpower arrived, firefighters received mutual aid from neighboring departments, including Hillside and Newark, as efforts continued to bring the fire under control.
The blaze was contained in about an hour. Firefighters then conducted a thorough search of the structure for possible trapped or injured occupants, but no victims were found.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no further details were immediately released.
