The deep freeze continues as Newark and the greater North Jersey region wake up to another exhaustingly frigid morning, with little relief in sight.
Forecasters say it will be several days before temperatures climb back above the freezing mark, and even then, only marginally.
Good morning, New Jersey. As of early Thursday, temperatures are hovering around 14 degrees in Newark, with dangerously cold wind chills making it feel even colder.
Unfortunately, there is little optimism in the forecast, as conditions are expected to turn even colder heading into Friday and Saturday.
Across the region, Sussex County is reporting temperatures near 5 degrees, with wind chills dropping to around minus 7.
In Morristown, it feels closer to 2 degrees, while Somerville is experiencing wind chills near 6 degrees.
Newark remains under the grip of the deep freeze, with wind chills around 9 degrees.
Despite plenty of sunshine expected today, the sun will do little to warm the region.
Forecasters warn residents not to be fooled by clear skies, as temperatures will remain stubbornly cold throughout the day.
Anyone heading out early this morning, especially around 4:30 a.m., should be prepared for harsh conditions.
Heavy winter clothing, hats, gloves, and face coverings are strongly recommended.
Dangerous cold is expected to persist into next week, with only a brief rise to just above freezing anticipated.
According to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high near 22 degrees. Wind chill values are expected to range between minus 5 and 5 degrees, with west winds between 6 and 10 miles per hour.

Thursday night will be mostly clear, with lows dropping to around 8 degrees. Wind chill values will range between zero and 5 degrees, with northwest winds around 8 miles per hour.
Have a great day, New Jersey and most importantly, stay warm.
