Deep Freeze Continues Across Newark as Frigid Temperatures Persist

Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

The deep freeze across Newark and the North Jersey region continues, with residents waking up to dangerously cold conditions and temperatures well below freezing early Wednesday morning.

As of 4:30 a.m., temperatures in Newark were hovering around 16 degrees, with wind chill values making it feel closer to 8 degrees

Gusty conditions are adding to the bite, creating hazardous exposure risks for anyone heading outdoors during the early morning hours.

Officials urge residents to dress in multiple layers and limit time outside whenever possible.

With several inches of snow still on the ground and temperatures remaining well below freezing, melting will be slow, prolonging icy and slippery conditions throughout the region.

Prolonged exposure without proper protection could lead to frostbite, particularly for those without adequate layers.

Residents are advised to move quickly between destinations and shield exposed skin from the cold.

According to the National Weather Service, skies will become increasingly cloudy today, with a high near 23 degrees

Wind chill values are expected to range between -5 and 5 degrees, with west winds around 7 mph.

Tonight, conditions will remain bitterly cold, with partly cloudy skies and lows near 5 degrees

Wind chill values are expected to dip between -5 and 0 degrees, with continued west winds around 7 mph.

The stretch of dangerous cold shows little sign of easing, and residents are encouraged to stay informed and take precautions during this prolonged winter chill.
