Police are investigating the reported sexual assault of a Rutgers University student that occurred early Saturday at a residence hall in Middlesex County.
According to authorities, the victim told police she was assaulted by an intimate partner inside a dormitory in Piscataway.
The incident was reported to the Rutgers University Police Department.
“The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at an area hospital,” said Kenneth Cop in a statement posted on social media.
Police said charges have been filed against a suspect who is not affiliated with the university.
As of Sunday night, the suspect had not been taken into custody.
Rutgers police are asking anyone with information about the incident, or who may have been in the area at the time, to contact university detectives at 848-932-8025.
