According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, John E. Meyers struck Frank V. Vitrano Jr. in the head during a dispute at a home on the 100 block of Wright Avenue in Stratford on Dec. 25.

Vitrano, a resident of Buena, sought medical treatment the following day and later died from his injuries on Dec. 27 at an area hospital, officials said. An autopsy determined that his death was caused by blunt force trauma.

Investigators said witnesses reported the argument occurred in the backyard and stemmed from a prior incident over the summer in which Vitrano allegedly slapped Meyers’ wife.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Meyers later admitted to the assault while speaking with another individual at a home in Pine Hill on Dec. 26.

Meyers, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, was charged with manslaughter on Dec. 28.

He was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Philadelphia the following day and is currently being held at a Philadelphia jail awaiting extradition to New Jersey. Court records do not list an attorney for Meyers.
