The collision happened on December 19 at the intersection of Prospect Street and Parkway Avenue after Ewing officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle around 6:45 p.m.

Authorities said the driver — a 15-year-old from Trenton — sped off when police activated their emergency lights and continued north on Prospect Street.

Investigators said the stolen vehicle ran a red light at Parkway Avenue and crashed into another car carrying two adults and two children.

One of the children suffered critical injuries and died the following day at a local hospital. The victim’s identity has not been released.

Two 15-year-olds inside the stolen vehicle were taken into custody at the scene, officials said.

The juvenile driver was originally charged with assault by auto, aggravated assault, eluding, motor vehicle theft, and related offenses.

Prosecutors have since upgraded the charges to include aggravated manslaughter, death by auto, and a traffic offense alleging the teen caused a fatality while driving without a license.

The passenger in the stolen vehicle has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle.
