Police in Newark are investigating a New Year’s morning shots-fired incident that occurred about an hour into the new year in the city’s South Ward.
According to preliminary information, officers received reports of gunfire around 1:20 a.m.
Initially believed to be fireworks related to holiday celebrations, responding units canvassed the area near 841 South 15th Street and ultimately located several shell casings at the scene.
No victims or injuries were reported during the search. The suspect fled the area and remains at large.
The incident remains under active investigation.
