New Jersey State Police are investigating a serious crash that occurred on a Passaic County highway early Friday morning.
According to preliminary information, troopers were dispatched at approximately 3:00 a.m. to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Exit 55B in Paterson following multiple reports of a collision in the area.
Responding units arrived and located several heavily damaged vehicles, along with approximately four occupants suffering various injuries. 
One victim was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in critical condition.
Troopers temporarily closed a portion of the highway while they conducted the on-scene investigation and cleared the wreckage.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no additional information was immediately available.
