We’re waking up to the first Friday of the year and it’s a brutally cold one across Newark and much of the North Jersey region.

Good morning. If you’re headed out to the bus stop around 4:45 a.m., bundle up. It is frigid outside, with temperatures at 21° in Downtown Newark, and the wind chill is making it feel even colder.
Conditions today won’t improve much from yesterday, with highs struggling to reach the freezing mark.
Across the region, temperatures are equally cold: Sussex County is at 19°, Morris County is at 19°, Somerville is at 20°, and parts of Passaic County are feeling like the low teens once the wind chill is factored in.
You’re going to need all of your winter gear today, gloves, hats, scarves, and heavy coats.
Light snow flurries are possible in higher elevations, especially in Sussex and Passaic counties. Most areas will remain locked in the 20s and low 30s throughout the day.
According to the National Weather Service:
• Today: A chance of flurries before 7 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 31°. Wind chill values between 15° and 20°. West wind 6 to 10 mph.
• Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 20°. West wind around 6 mph.

Stay warm, travel safely, and keep the layers on, winter is making its presence felt this morning.
