Cold Morning Across Newark as Light Rain Threat Develops Later

Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to a cold but dry Sunday morning as the final weekend of the holiday stretch winds down.

Good morning, New Jersey, and Happy Second Day of Kwanzaa, Kujichagulia (Self-Determination). 

If you’re heading out early for worship services or morning errands, be sure to bundle up; temperatures are starting the day in the teens in some neighborhoods.

 

As of 4:30 a.m., it was 18 degrees at Central Avenue and Norfolk Street in Newark with light winds. 

Temperatures are expected to tick upward slightly through the day, but the chill will linger.

 

No significant snow is expected for the region today, but there is a chance of precipitation later, with parts of Sussex, Morris, and Passaic counties at risk for freezing rain.

 

According to the National Weather Service:

Today:

A 40 percent chance of rain after 4 p.m.

Increasing clouds with a high near 38.

Wind chills between 20 and 30.

Light southwest winds around 5 mph by afternoon.

Tonight:

Rain is likely between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Temperatures rising to around 40 by 4 a.m.

South winds 3–7 mph.

80 percent chance of precipitation.
