Authorities in Newark request the public’s help in identifying the suspect, who threatened to slash the tires of a Lyft driver’s vehicle on December 13.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. stated that the driver stopped at approximately 9:39 p.m. to pick up a female passenger on William Street between Halsey Street and Washington Street.
She was with the suspect, who was harassing her as they approached his vehicle, Newark officials said.

According to Newark officials, the driver reported to police that the suspect pulled out a knife, tapped his side mirror, and threatened to slash his tires if he did not leave.
Instead, the driver allowed the female and the suspect to enter his vehicle, and the harassment continued while he drove them to Hunterdon Street between Fourteenth and Fifteenth Avenue, Newark officials say. The couple exited the car and entered a building on that street.

Director Miranda urges anyone with information on the suspect’s identity to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
