Former NJ Councilman Indicted on Multiple Counts of Forgery

Authorities in Gloucester County announced Wednesday that their Grand Jury has indicted Richard Bennett of Washington Township on four counts of fourth-degree forgery.

The indictment alleges two counts of forgery and two counts in violation of NJSA 2C:21-1a(3), Gloucester County officials said.

GCPO officials say each count carries a maximum penalty of 18 months in state prison.

According to documents filed in this case:

Bennett, who was a sitting Washington Township council member, mailed harassing letters to two members of his local Board of Education in the name of another board member, according to Gloucester County officials.
