The Stafford Township Police Department has confirmed the recovery of a 19-year-old male who had been reported missing following an incident at the Manahawkin Bridge late last month.
According to authorities, the individual was located during the evening hours of December 17, 2025, following an extensive, multi-agency search that spanned approximately three weeks.
The New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau located the individual in the waters near the Manahawkin Bridge using sonar equipment.
The West Tuckerton Fire Department Dive Team subsequently recovered the body about 200 meters north of the bridge, police said.
Family members have been notified. The individual was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released at this time.
Stafford Township police expressed their gratitude to the numerous agencies involved in the coordinated search effort, including the New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau, West Tuckerton Fire Department, Stafford Township Fire and EMS, and other regional emergency response partners.
Officials said the professionalism, dedication, and cooperation of all personnel were critical throughout the operation.
On behalf of the department, police extended their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young man during what they described as an incredibly difficult time.
