The Newark Arson Squad has been called in to assist with an investigation into a suspicious overnight fire at a vacant home in Newark’s South Ward.

The fast-moving blaze broke out at a three-family residence located at 14 Beverly Street, prompting multiple 911 calls from neighbors reporting flames inside the structure.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene overnight and arrived to find heavy fire conditions coming from the rear of the building and extending through the roof.

Crews quickly stretched several hose lines and began attacking the flames before making entry into the home.

A thorough search of the building was conducted, and no trapped individuals were found inside.

Despite snowy and hazardous conditions, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 40 minutes.

One firefighter suffered non-life-threatening injuries while battling the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under active investigation, and officials have not yet determined the extent of the damage or the cost associated with the incident.
