It may be slightly warmer than Wednesday, but stepping outside at 4:30 a.m. tells a different story, as Newark and much of North Jersey sit just above freezing to start this chilly Thursday morning.

Good morning and happy Thursday.
If you’re heading out early, especially to the bus stop, you’ll want all your winter layers. It is currently 35 degrees at Martin Luther King Boulevard and Mercer Street in Newark’s Central Ward.
While conditions will stay dry, forecasters say gusty winds will dominate the day, making temperatures feel much colder than they read.
Sussex County, Morristown, Somerville, and Edison are all feeling below freezing, with some areas dipping into the 20s with the early morning wind chills.
Winds out of the west are currently around 7 mph, but gusts are expected to surge between 35 and 40 mph later today.
Expect a mix of clouds and sunshine, but temperatures will struggle to break out of the low 40s.
According to the National Weather Service:
Today: Cloudy, then gradual clearing in the afternoon, with a high near 40. Breezy, with west winds increasing to 17–22 mph. Gusts could reach 32 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear with a low around 19. Wind chills between 10 and 15 degrees. Northwest winds 16–21 mph.
Bundle up, stay warm, and have a wonderful day, New Jersey.
