Pedestrian Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries After Being Struck on I-80 in Paterson

A person suffered severe, life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 80 in Paterson early Sunday morning.

According to preliminary information, police were dispatched to the area of I-80 and 23rd Street just before 1:20 a.m. following reports of an individual down on the roadway. 

When officers arrived, they immediately requested EMS on a rush, but began CPR at the scene after locating the critically injured victim.
 

The individual was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for emergency treatment. 

Authorities have described the victim’s injuries as both severe and life-threatening.

 

Details regarding the circumstances of the incident, such as how the victim came to be in the roadway or whether the driver remained on scene, have not yet been released by local police or New Jersey State Police officials.

 

The cause of the crash remains under active investigation, and no further information has been made available at this time.
