Good Thanksgiving morning, and we hope everyone is feeling well and truly thankful today.
Newark is waking up to 42 degrees in the downtown area, but gusty winds are dropping the feel-like temperature to about 35 degrees.
If you’re stepping out early — whether heading to work, catching a train, or starting the holiday drive — you’ll want to bundle up. It’s noticeably colder than Wednesday.
Near the intersection of Broad and Market Streets, clouds hang low over the city, setting the tone for a brisk holiday.
The cold is expected to stick around throughout the day, so anyone heading to Grandma’s house, gathering with family, or traveling into New York City for the Thanksgiving Day Parade should prepare for the chill.
With strong winds in the forecast, many will be watching to see whether conditions impact the parade balloons, which can be sensitive to high gusts.
According to the National Weather Service, Thanksgiving Day will bring mostly sunny skies with a high near 46 degrees.
West winds between 14 and 23 mph and gusts up to 38 mph will make it feel colder than the thermometer suggests.
Tonight, temperatures are expected to drop to around 31 degrees, with wind chill values between 20 and 25, keeping the region firmly in winter-like conditions.
Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving Day, New Jersey.
