Police officials in Newark reported that police arrested 16 fugitives during a month-long roundup in October targeting individuals wanted for violent crimes and weapons offenses.
According to officials, half of those taken into custody were wanted for aggravated assault, 10 were being sought for illegal possession of a firearm, three were wanted for robbery, and one suspect was wanted for carjacking.

“Our goal is to remove violent fugitives from our streets before they wreak even more havoc,” Director Miranda said.
He praised the Newark Police Criminal Intelligence Division and Fugitive Section for what he called tireless and strategic work in locating suspects throughout the month.
The arrests include:
• Juan C. Gomez Gill, 24, of Elizabeth — Arrested October 1. Charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, conspiracy, and criminal mischief.
• Rolondo Colon, 26, of Newark — Arrested October 15. Wanted for carjacking, aggravated assault, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
• Miguel A. DeJesus, 33, of Newark — Arrested October 24. Sought on a robbery warrant, aggravated assault, two counts of conspiracy, and an additional Newark warrant.
• Travis L. Kelley, 50, of Paterson — Arrested October 2. Charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, terroristic threats, and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession.
• Rashun Maddox, 30, of Newark — Arrested October 4. Wanted for unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, criminal mischief, and certain persons not permitted to possess weapons.
• Sophia Jones, 32, of Newark — Arrested October 17. Wanted on charges involving CDS distribution and CDS possession.
• Ali M. Davis, 30, of Delanco — Arrested October 20. Charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and certain persons prohibited from having a firearm.
• Rahmon N. Johnson, 28, of Newark — Arrested October 22. Charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threats.
• Henry D. Vaden, 21, of Newark — Arrested October 24. Wanted for aggravated assault, robbery, terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
• Nasir Q. Stanley, 22, of Newark — Arrested October 27. Charged with aggravated assault, harassment, and robbery.
• Tyonn S. Street, 25, of Plainfield — Arrested October 27. Wanted for three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, obstruction, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest.
• Maria V. Ward, 32, of East Orange — Arrested October 28. Wanted for unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and criminal mischief.
• Lawrence A. Williams, 32, of Newark — Arrested October 28. Wanted for unlawful possession of a weapon.
• Zahir Muhammad, 27, of Newark — Arrested October 29. Charged with aggravated assault and simple assault.
• Jamil D. Coffield, 42, of Orange — Arrested October 31. Wanted for unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a prohibited defaced firearm, false reports to law enforcement, and certain persons not permitted to possess weapons.

• Albert B. Boone, 58, of Newark — Arrested October 31. Wanted for unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession.
Director Miranda said the roundup reflects the department’s ongoing focus on removing individuals “who threaten the safety of our residents and visitors” from Newark’s neighborhoods.
