Newark officials are investigating the cause of a weekend apartment fire that broke out Sunday evening inside a high-rise building on Manor Drive.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, firefighters responded to 5 Manor Drive shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2025, following reports of a fire inside a seventh-floor apartment.
Crews worked quickly to contain the blaze, bringing it under control by 5:54 p.m.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though one adult resident was displaced as a result of the incident.
Authorities said early observations at the scene suggested the fire may have been linked to a possible hoarding situation, but investigators have not confirmed that as the official cause.
The Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit continues to examine the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
Fire officials reminded residents to maintain clear, safe living spaces and ensure working smoke alarms are installed in all residential units as the investigation continues.
