The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability has opened an investigation into a deadly police-involved shooting that took place in Jersey City during the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

According to preliminary findings, members of the Jersey City Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit encountered a man near Bergen and Virginia avenues shortly after 1 a.m.
During the encounter, gunfire was exchanged and the civilian was struck.
Officers recovered a firearm at the scene and immediately provided emergency medical assistance.
The man was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:44 a.m.

Officials have not released the names of the deceased individual or the officer involved.
The investigation remains active, and no additional details are currently being made public, the Attorney General’s Of
fice said in a statement.
