Suspect Who Fled With Cash-Filled Backpack After Business Robbery in Newark Sought

Newark police are searching for a suspect who carried out a bold daytime robbery at a business on Summer Avenue over the weekend.

According to information released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, officers were called to the 200 block of Summer Avenue shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, after receiving reports of an armed robbery in progress.

 

Police said the suspect, described as a Hispanic male, entered the store and ordered a worker to fill his backpack with merchandise and whatever cash was available. 

The employee complied, handing over items along with about $100 in cash.

 

The man then fled on foot down Summer Avenue toward 3rd Avenue before police arrived. 

Authorities confirmed no injuries were reported.

 

The incident remains under investigation, and detectives are working to identify the suspect.
