The collision occurred around 9:45 p.m. in the 600 block of Mount Prospect Avenue, near the entrance to 696 Mount Prospect Avenue.

According to a statement released by The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder was heading north on the avenue when the driver attempted to make a left turn into the property.

At that moment, the SUV was struck by an off-road motorcycle traveling southbound.

Police said the motorcycle had been reported stolen and was also unregistered.

In addition, investigators noted that the bike was not equipped with lights, a factor that may have contributed to the crash.

The rider, whose identity has not yet been released, was rushed to University Hospital but was pronounced dead at 11:03 p.m.

The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No additional injuries were reported.
