NJ Woman Charged with Spanking Child

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 33-year-old Darlene Guzman of Garfield following an investigation into alleged child abuse.

 

According to Prosecutor Musella, the case was investigated by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, along with the Garfield Police Department led by Chief Joseph Delaney.
 

Authorities said the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted investigators on October 2, 2025, regarding an alleged incident in Garfield.

Detectives determined that Guzman physically assaulted and abused a juvenile on or about October 1, 2025.

 

As a result, Guzman was arrested on October 2 and charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child (N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2)) and simple assault, a disorderly persons offense (N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1a(1)). 

She was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
