DEVELOPING: Man Killed in Newark’s Central Ward Shooting

An active crime scene is unfolding in Newark’s Central Ward as investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office examine a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a man late Friday morning.
 

According to preliminary reports, gunfire erupted shortly before noon near the intersection of Spruce Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. 

Responding officers found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:15 p.m.
 

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity, and no arrests have been reported. 

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said the investigation is ongoing.

 

This marks the second deadly shooting in Newark in less than 24 hours.
