Authorities in Atlantic County announced that on Tuesday, September 30, Matthew C. Robison Jr., 28, from Mays Landing, was charged on a complaint summons with third-degree theft based on his misappropriation of funds for personal use while he was the treasurer for the Reliance Hose Company No. 1, also known as the Mays Landing Fire Department.

According to Atlantic County officials, on August 7, the Hamilton Township Police Department reported to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office (ACPO) - Professional Standards and Accountability Unit (PSA) - that an Executive Board member of the Reliance Hose Company No. 1, who was assigned as the treasurer, may have spent money from the organization’s bank accounts for personal use from January 2024 through beginning of 2025.
This investigation revealed Mr. Robison, as the treasurer responsible for the organization’s bank accounts, transferred, withdrew, and spent money for personal use during that timeframe, ACPO authorities say.
In addition, Atlantic County officials say, Mr. Robison was found to have altered the purchase descriptions and deleted the debit lines from the accounting books before submitting the reconciliation reports for tax purposes.
Atlantic County officials stated that on September 30, Mr. Robison was interviewed at the ACPO-PSA unit.
During the interview, he admitted to spending the funds as well as taking cash from the ATM machines from the organization’s bank accounts during the time mentioned above, and for an approximate total amount of $17,000.00, Atlantic County officials said.
In addition, Mr. Robison admitted to altering the descriptions in QuickBooks for those transactions he made for personal use and subsequently deleting them during the reconciliation reports, ACPO officials say.
This investigation is ongoing.
