Authorities are investigating a puzzling overnight incident after a man with a serious stab wound to the head turned up at a city hospital following a car crash, officials said.

According to preliminary reports, police and EMS were dispatched around 3:15 a.m. Saturday on the 80 block of Lincoln Avenue for a crash involving a vehicle that slammed into a utility pole, bringing down wires.

PSEG crews rushed to the scene to shut off power.

When officers arrived, they found traces of blood near the wreck but no victims inside the vehicle.

While police were securing the crash site, Capital Health Medical Center notified them that an unidentified person had walked into the emergency room suffering from a stab wound to the head.

Investigators now believe the stabbing victim may be connected to the crash, though it remains unclear whether the individual was attacked before the collision or during the chaotic incident.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
