According to information released by the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office, residents are being targeted by a phone scam involving callers impersonating law enforcement officers and threatening arrests over missed jury duty.

Officials said the impersonators claim that residents failed to appear in court after being issued a subpoena.

The scammers even provide fraudulent warrant numbers, telling victims that active arrest warrants have been issued in their names.

In an attempt to exploit fear, the callers instruct residents that they can avoid arrest by paying fines immediately.

Authorities emphasized that courts and government agencies never demand payments over the phone. Additionally, courts do not request sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers from potential jurors.
