Detectives have arrested and charged a Camden man and two members of his family in connection with the murder of a Deptford resident whose body has not yet been found, according to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.
Authorities said Everton Thomas, 41, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 48-year-old Harold “Hal” Miller Jr. of Deptford.
He also faces charges of second-degree desecration of human remains and fourth-degree tampering with physical evidence.
Thomas’s wife, Sherrie Parker, 41, and his son, Deshawn Thomas, 22, are both charged with second-degree desecration of human remains and fourth-degree tampering with physical evidence.
Investigators said Miller was reported missing on June 14, 2025, after last being seen playing cards with friends in Camden two days earlier.
His empty vehicle was later located in Pennsauken.
According to prosecutors, surveillance video and cell phone data revealed Miller entered a residence on the 2600 block of Baird Boulevard in Camden shortly before 11:30 a.m. on June 12.
Moments later, video captured the sound of what appeared to be a single gunshot. Miller was never seen leaving the property.
Footage later showed Everton Thomas moving Miller’s vehicle and parking it where police eventually found it.
Detectives also learned that Parker and Deshawn Thomas purchased a chainsaw, containers, trash bags, and cleaning supplies after Miller entered the residence but never exited.
Additional video evidence captured Everton and Deshawn Thomas discarding containers and bags in dumpsters at the Tamarack Apartments.
A search of the defendants’ home on June 20 revealed suspected bloodstains inside and a loaded firearm in Everton Thomas’s possession. Forensic testing later confirmed the blood belonged to Miller.
Authorities said Everton fled to Canada the following day but was arrested on September 8, 2025, at the Port of Buffalo, New York, after crossing back into the U.S. on a commercial bus.
Parker and Deshawn Thomas were arrested in Camden on the same day by the U.S. Marshals Service. All three suspects remain in custody.
The investigation was led by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Camden County Police Department, with assistance from the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the Deptford Township Police Department.
