Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

Police in Newark are investigating a late-night shots fired incident that left several vehicles damaged but, thankfully, no injuries reported.

According to preliminary information, just before 9:50 p.m., a ShotSpotter device activated in the area of 641 Clinton Avenue in Newark’s South Ward, alerting authorities to possible gunfire.

Responding officers arrived on the scene and discovered multiple shell casings scattered across the street.

Additionally, several parked vehicles had been struck by bullets, but no occupants were inside any of the cars at the time of the shooting.

A thorough search of the immediate area turned up no victims, and police confirmed that the suspect fled the scene before they arrived.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is active and ongoing.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
