A motorcyclist lost their life Tuesday evening following a violent crash on Ridge Road, according to a statement released by Lyndhurst Police Chief Richard L. Jarvis.

Police said the accident happened around 5:48 p.m. between Ten Eyck Avenue and Union Avenue, where officers and EMS personnel rushed to the scene.

Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the motorcycle’s operator was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Investigators from the Lyndhurst Police Crash Unit and the department’s Criminal Investigation Division are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities stressed that there is currently no evidence of criminal behavior or reckless driving by anyone involved.

At the time of the crash, the victim had been participating in a charity motorcycle run honoring the September 11, 2001, tragedy.

Officials said the rider’s name is being withheld until family notifications are complete.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased during this difficult time,” Chief Jarvis said in the statement.
