Emergency responders sprang into action Saturday evening after a senior man was pulled from a backyard pool in distress in the Bergen County town of Mahwah.According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. in the 20s block of Bedford Road, where multiple 911 calls were made reporting an unconscious and unresponsive man in a pool.
Mahwah Police and emergency medical personnel arrived swiftly at the scene and found a man in his late 60s who had reportedly taken in too much water.
First responders immediately initiated CPR in an attempt to revive the individual.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and, as of the latest update, was listed in life-threatening condition. Authorities have not yet released his identity.
The incident remains under active investigation by the Mahwah Police to determine what led to the near-drowning.
