Teen Found Shot Near Rutgers-Newark Campus Saturday Night

Authorities in Newark are investigating a shooting that left a teenage boy injured just steps away from the Rutgers University–Newark campus late Saturday night.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. near 258 University Avenue, in the vicinity of the Rutgers Golden Dome Athletic Center, at the intersection of Raymond Boulevard.

Responding officers arrived to find a 16-year-old male suffering from two gunshot wounds to the chest. 

The teen was rushed to University Hospital, where he remains under medical care. His condition has not yet been disclosed.

A massive law enforcement presence was seen at the scene, including officers from Rutgers University Police, NJIT Police, and Newark Police, who cordoned off the area as part of their ongoing investigation.

Police are currently searching for a silver vehicle that was observed fleeing the scene, though it is unclear at this time whether the suspect or suspects were inside that vehicle.

The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and no arrests have been made. 

The investigation is active, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Newark Police Department.
