Emergency responders and detectives are investigating a crash this afternoon after a car drove into a Planet Fitness gym on Newark Avenue, according to preliminary information from the scene.
Police said the incident happened just before 12:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Newark Avenue. 
When officers arrived, they found a vehicle inside the gym with three people inside the establishment and the female driver all injured. EMS, fire, and additional emergency units were immediately requested.
All four victims were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. 
One of the injured is reportedly life-threatening, but we are awaiting confirmation from Elizabeth police.
The area has been taped off as investigators continue to examine the scene. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
UPDATE: At 2:05 p.m., a man was pronounced dead at University Hospital.
