Another Major Water Main Break Impacts Paterson

Paterson

By: Richard L. Smith

A new water main break in Paterson is disrupting service for residents in the Riverside section of the city, according to a statement released by the Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC).

Crews are working to isolate a 42-inch main break at North 1st Street and Arch Street.

Officials emphasized that this incident is separate from the break near Hinchliffe Stadium earlier this week, where repairs successfully restored service on two major pipelines.

As workers close valves to contain the latest rupture, large portions of Riverside may experience little to no water pressure.

PVWC said there is currently no estimated timeframe for repairs.

Boil Water Advisory Update

In coordination with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, PVWC has lifted the Boil Water Advisory for nearly 77,000 customers in parts of Paterson.

The cleared area includes Broadway and all streets south of Broadway, east of Spruce Street, and west of Route 20.

The advisory, however, remains in effect for other sections of Paterson, the Borough of Prospect Park, and customers served by the Manchester Utilities Authority in Haledon and North Haledon.

Residents under the advisory must continue boiling water for at least one minute before use—or rely on bottled water—until officials confirm it is safe.

Safety Reminder

PVWC is reminding customers that water quality testing crews wear official uniforms and carry photo identification.

Residents are urged not to allow entry to anyone without proper credentials. Any suspicious activity should be reported to local police immediately.
