Franklin Township Police Department has introduced a new initiative, Franklin Community Connections, aimed at protecting residents at risk of wandering due to cognitive conditions.
Public Safety Director Quovella M. Maeweather said the program will give families peace of mind and allow officers to respond more quickly in emergencies.
“When someone with a cognitive condition goes missing, every second counts. This program provides families with the tools they need and gives our officers the ability to respond faster, increasing the chances of a safe return. Franklin Township is committed to protecting our most vulnerable residents,” Maeweather said.
Why It Matters
Time is critical when someone goes missing. National data shows that:
• 72% are found alive within the first day.
• 51% survive after two days.
• By days three to five, survival rates drop to 30%.
Theora Care Technology
As part of the program, participants will have access to the Theora Connect™ smart wristwatch, which uses GPS and connects with the Theora Link™ app.
The device enables caregivers to track real-time locations, set safe zones, receive alerts if a loved one leaves the area, and communicate directly through two-way voice features.
Who Is Eligible
The program is available to Franklin Township residents with documented conditions that increase the risk of wandering, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and similar diagnoses.
