Paterson police apprehended a suspect Saturday night following a foot pursuit that began after an armed robbery in the heart of the city.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Broadway and Main Street.
The victim told police that a male suspect approached on a scooter, brandished a firearm, and demanded personal belongings.
Police on the scene quickly radioed a description of the suspect to patrol units in the area. Shortly after, officers spotted the individual and initiated a pursuit.
The suspect reportedly abandoned the scooter near Haledon Avenue and North 2nd Street before fleeing on foot through nearby streets.
Officers gave chase and were able to detain him without further incident.
No injuries were reported during the robbery or subsequent arrest. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Charges are pending.
