A police officer shot and killed a dog that began to attack during a response to a reported domestic violence incident in the city on Monday afternoon.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. when officers entered the rear door of a residence on Olive Street.
During the incident, a pit bull lunged at one of the officers and bit his arm, prompting the officer to fire at least one round, fatally striking the animal.

The suspect in the domestic violence case reportedly fled the scene before officers could take him into custody. As of now, no arrests have been reported.
