The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) has made public three 911 calls and body-worn camera recordings tied to a fatal police-involved shooting in Pemberton Township on October 19, 2024.
The civilian killed in the encounter has been identified as 57-year-old Marvin Taylor of Browns Mills.
According to a press release from the Attorney General’s Office, the footage was disclosed under policies established in 2019 to ensure transparency in investigations of fatal police encounters.
Members of Taylor’s family were given the opportunity to view the recordings before their release.
The incident began when a 911 call reported smoke coming from a residence on Woodland Avenue at approximately 3:22 p.m.
Pemberton Township firefighters and police responded to the scene. Officers were informed that an armed man, later confirmed to be Taylor, was in the backyard.
Police positioned themselves in a wooded area behind the property and issued repeated commands for Taylor to drop his weapon.
Authorities say Taylor then exchanged gunfire with Officer Kyle McQueen of the Pemberton Township Police Department.
Taylor was struck during the exchange, and officers immediately rendered first aid.

He was flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he was pronounced dead at 5:36 p.m. A firearm was recovered near him. No officers or bystanders were injured.
The OPIA investigation remains active, and the publicly released materials — including the 911 calls and bodycam footage — can be viewed here.
