By: Richard L. Smith North Jersey residents are waking up to a slightly cooler and less humid Thursday morning following a night of intense thunderstorms, lightning, and flash flooding that swept through the region. As of 4:30 a.m., temperatures sit at 74 degrees on Clinton Avenue and Bergen Street in Newark’s South Ward. While some humidity remains, the air is noticeably lighter compared to Wednesday's oppressive conditions, thanks to the overnight storm system. According to the National Weather Service, skies are mostly cloudy this morning, and while a few early showers are possible, there's a greater chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms returning after 11 a.m. Sunshine is expected to peek through at times, but the lingering humidity will still make the day feel warmer than it actually is. Forecast Details: Today: A slight chance of showers before 8 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 88°F. Calm winds shifting to the northeast around 5 mph. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 72°F. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and keep an umbrella nearby, just in case another round of storms develops later in the day. Despite the break in humidity, summer heat still lingers, so plan accordingly. Have a safe and enjoyable Thursday, New Jersey!
