The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred late Saturday morning in Newark’s South Ward.
According to preliminary information released by the Prosecutor’s Office, police responded to reports of gunfire near 89 Astor Street just before 11 a.m. on August 9
Officers arrived to find an unidentified female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Authorities believe a male suspect opened fire on the victim before fleeing the area. This appears to be a domestic violence incident.
Both the suspect and the vehicle remain at large.
The identity of the victim has not been released, and the investigation is active and ongoing.
